About UO-11
UO-11 (UoSAT-2) was built by the University of Surrey and launched on 1 March 1984 from Vandenberg together with Landsat 5. It was one of the first small satellites built by a university and led to Surrey Satellite Technology, one of the companies that started the small-satellite industry.
UO-11 has no transponder for contacts. Its 2 m beacon was still heard now and then decades after launch. It runs only on solar power, switching on and off in irregular cycles, so it can be silent for days or weeks. Hearing it is a classic challenge for satellite listeners, who report receptions on the AMSAT status page.
