About GRBBETA
GRBBeta is a 2U CubeSat from Slovakia and Hungary, the successor of GRBAlpha, the first CubeSat to detect a gamma-ray burst. It was built with the Technical University of Košice, the Konkoly Observatory in Hungary and the company Spacemanic, and launched on 9 July 2024 on the first flight of the Ariane 6 rocket from Kourou. It carries an improved gamma-ray detector, an experimental UV camera and new attitude-control hardware for future gamma-ray CubeSat constellations.
The amateur payload is a digital repeater in its Murgaš transceiver. It works with 9600 baud GFSK AX.25 packets (G3RUH) on 145.935 MHz and 436.785 MHz; use HA2GRB in the path. An experimental S-band transmitter on 2405 MHz sends data at much higher rates.
Radio amateurs also help the science: when the detector triggers on a gamma-ray event, the satellite reports it in its telemetry, and amateur and SatNOGS stations that receive it pass the alert on to the scientists.
