About SONATE-2
SONATE-2 is a 6U CubeSat of the University of Würzburg in Germany, launched on 4 March 2024 on a Falcon 9 rideshare from Vandenberg. Its main mission is to test artificial-intelligence hardware and software in orbit: an onboard computer with visible and infrared cameras that can classify images and even train neural networks in space. The satellite is used to train students, and it supports the DLR School Lab in Neustrelitz, which offers pupils experiments on space, satellites and amateur radio.
For radio amateurs SONATE-2 offers an APRS digipeater on 145.825 MHz (1200 baud AFSK, half duplex, 500 mW). Put its callsign DP0SNX in the path of your packets. When the digipeater is on, it sends a greeting message every two minutes. During scheduled SSTV events the satellite sends pictures from its own cameras on 145.880 MHz in Martin M1, and the APRS digipeater is off during SSTV events.
The university publishes the digipeater and SSTV schedules on its "Information for Radio Amateurs" page and announces activations on social media, so check there before a pass.
