About RS61S
RS61S, called 239Alferov, is a 3U CubeSat built by Saint Petersburg's Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 and the Zh. I. Alferov school within the Russian Space-π programme, on the Geoscan 3U platform. It was launched on 25 July 2025 on a Soyuz-2.1b/Fregat rocket from Vostochny, together with the six Geoscan satellites RS92S1 to RS92S6.
Its science payload is a cosmic gamma-ray transient monitor developed with the Ioffe Institute. It also tests the VERA ablative pulsed plasma thruster.
For radio amateurs the coordinated downlinks are 436.270 MHz on UHF, for GFSK telemetry at speeds up to 19,200 baud, and an X-band downlink on 10473.350 MHz using DVB-S2. In its frequency application the team listed CW, voice, SSTV, SSDV and a digipeater as planned amateur services. Radio amateurs reported SSDV transmissions from it on the AMSAT status page in September 2026.
