About RS30

RS-30 is the amateur designation of Yubileiny ("Jubilee"), a Russian satellite built to mark the 50th anniversary of Sputnik 1. It was built by ISS Reshetnev with the Siberian State Aerospace University in Krasnoyarsk, whose students developed part of the payload, and launched on 23 May 2008 on a Rokot rocket from Plesetsk as a secondary payload with three Russian military communications satellites, Kosmos 2437 to 2439.

The 48 kg satellite has a hexagonal body with solar cells and a gravity-gradient boom. For radio amateurs it transmitted on 435.215 and 435.315 MHz, including CW telemetry, recordings of Sputnik 1's signals, the Russian national anthem, voice messages and SSTV pictures. It is reported to have fallen silent in November 2012.

RS-30 flies in a high orbit of about 1,480 by 1,510 km at 82.5°, the same inclination as RS-44, so its passes are long and cover a large part of a continent.
