About LASARSAT
LASARsat is a 1U CubeSat built by the LASAR team of Czech high school students with the company Spacemanic and the Prague Planetarium, and launched on 21 December 2024 on SpaceX's Bandwagon-2 rideshare mission from Vandenberg. Its science goal is unusual: it serves as a target for ground-based laser tests with the HiLASE laser centre, with photodiodes, a plasma detector and corner reflectors to measure what the laser does. The idea, which won recognition in the Conrad Challenge, is to use lasers to help repair satellites and deal with space debris.
For radio amateurs LASARsat runs a digipeater on 436.925 MHz using 9600 baud GFSK AX.25 packets (G3RUH); the callsign and path alias is OK0LSR. The same downlink carries a CW beacon, telemetry, special messages and SSDV images.
LASARsat is in a 45° inclination orbit, so it passes well over mid-latitudes but never reaches the polar regions.
