About HO-68
HO-68 (Hope-OSCAR 68), launched as XW-1 or CAS-1, was China's first amateur radio satellite. The 50 kg microsatellite was launched on 15 December 2009 on a Long March 4C rocket from Taiyuan together with the Yaogan-8 satellite, into an orbit of about 1,200 km. "Xi Wang" means "hope" in Chinese, which is why AMSAT gave it the Hope-OSCAR name less than a week after launch.
It carried a CW beacon and three crossband transponders, all with 2 m uplinks and 70 cm downlinks: an FM repeater (145.825 MHz with a 67.0 Hz tone, down on 435.675 MHz), an inverting SSB/CW linear transponder (145.925–145.975 MHz up, 435.765–435.715 MHz down) and a 1200 bps packet mode. The transponder output was 1 W.
Its high orbit gave long passes and wide coverage, and it was the first in a line of CAMSAT satellites that continued with the XW-2 group, CAS-6 (TO-108) and XW-3 (HO-113). HO-68 is not listed in AMSAT's 2026 FM or linear satellite summaries; check recent reports before trying it.
