About EO-79
EO-79 (European-OSCAR 79) is QB50p1, one of two 2U precursor CubeSats for the QB50 project, a planned network of 50 university CubeSats to study the lower thermosphere. It was built on an ISIS platform for the von Karman Institute in Belgium and launched on 19 June 2014 on a Dnepr rocket from Yasny, Russia. Its science payload was an ion and neutral mass spectrometer.
QB50p1 also carried FUNcube-3, a linear transponder from AMSAT-NL. In November 2016, after the science mission was over, AMSAT-UK and AMSAT-NL put it into regular amateur service: uplink 435.047–435.077 MHz LSB, downlink 145.935–145.965 MHz USB, about 400 mW. It is an inverting transponder with the uplink on 70 cm, so most of the Doppler correction is on your transmit frequency. Because of the power budget it ran only about 25 minutes per orbit, starting 27 minutes after the satellite came into sunlight.
AMSAT's list of inoperative satellites (February 2026) gives EO-79 as non-operational.
